Isolationism is the process by which a country makes itself independent. They do this by making supplies by themself so that they don't rely on other countries for their food or military supplies. Countries wanted to be immune to other countries stopping trade with them so that they would be weak. America was the first country to practice isolationism and others would soon follow when word of a war came around. Woodrow Wilson used isolationism as a campaign slogan saying, "He kept us out of war." That slogan is one reason he was elected president.
